But when the dotcom bubble（泡沫） deflated（泄氣）, hot air left the singles scene, too. Men are less arrogant（傲慢自大的）, women less choosy（挑剔的）.
Where ads in the late 1990s hinted at（暗示） expensive lifestyles, todays wishlists（希望得到的東西的清單） are more down to earth. And where women once demanded men with impeccable（無懈可擊的） social skills, theyre now focusing on his values, if hes interested in family and are more open to nerds.

Hunk有兩個意思，在指物的時候，意思是大塊,大片;厚塊，比如一大塊面包就是a hunk of break；指人時，它指那種很高大很結實的男人，俗稱猛男，舉個例子：

播音員們投票評選最熱門的球員。
當然，hunks of the web指的絕不單是體格上的猛，更重要的是技術上的領先和突出。
但是,當網絡泡沫破滅時,（when the dotcom bubble deflated）這種火熱的景象也從單身漢的生活中消失了。（hot air left the singles scene）男人不那么趾高氣揚了,（Men are less arrogant）女人也不那么挑三揀四了。（women less choosy，這里由于句式與前文一致，所以省略了are.）
20世紀90年代的征婚啟事都暗示要求對方生活富足,（ads in the late 1990s hinted at expensive lifestyles）今天的求偶意向則希望更腳踏實地.（todays wishlists are more down to earth.） 女性一度要求男性具備無可挑剔的社交能力,（women once demanded men with impeccable social skills）她們如今卻把目光集中在他的價值觀上,（his values）看他是否熱愛家庭（if hes interested in family）而且更垂青書呆子.（more open to nerds.）
「句型留言板」
drool 不但能夠當成名詞口水, 還能當作動詞流口水解釋。中文里如果我們很想要某樣東西，會說對東西流口水，巧得很， 英文里也有類似用法，用的就是我們今天要學的句型drool over something.
在校大學生，最渴望擁有一臺自己的電腦，無奈身上銀子有限，只能望機興嘆：
Im drooling over the new computer.
新的計算機出來了, 讓我看到都會流口水.
補充說明：
口水的講法還有許多種, 像 saliva 這個字也當口水解釋, 不過 saliva 是醫學上的專有名詞, 也就相當于中文里的唾液，在口語中不常用。而 water 這個字則是可以廣泛地解釋為口水、淚水或汗水（視上下文而定）。 例如我們說My mouth is watering. 就是我開始在流口水啦! 所以有一個形容詞 mouth-watering 就是指垂涎三尺或是垂涎欲滴。句個例子：
This cheesecake is mouth-watering!
這個起士蛋糕，真是令人垂涎欲滴。

文中講到了一句美國年輕人常用的口頭禪nerd，這里詳細介紹一下。
nerd 是指一些年輕人，每天只懂讀書、考試，但對生活上的其他事情，都很生疏。 （A person always buries his nose in books, but not good at social situations.）
由于美國十分重視多方面發展的教育 （well-rounded），所以許多老外認為 nerd 雖然學識不錯，但很乏味；有IQ，但缺乏EQ，只是社會上無足輕重的書蟲或蠢貨而已。
舉個例子：
He used to be a nerd in high school.
過去他在高中時是位書呆子。
（當然，本文的nerd帶上了引號，指的并不是只會鉆研書本的人，而是不喜歡嘈雜的社交生活，依戀家庭的男人。）
類似的詞還有geek.意思與 nerd 相似，但 geek 是指在某一方面有很高的 IQ.我們可以說：
He is a computer geek. （意思是：雖然他是書呆子，但電腦很棒。）
